The process of looking for a job has changed a lot over the years. You can find work by just sitting around your Owasso apartments and applying to jobs online. If you’re lucky, you can even interview for your next job from the comfort of your apartment. Skype interviews are becoming more and more common, so we thought it was time we told our residents how to prepare for an ace a Skype interview.
There’s more to it than you might think. In fact, we think regular interviews are easier than Skype interviews. With that being said, more and more people are working remote and applying for jobs in different parts of the country. With all these remote workers, it only makes sense that Skype interviews would become the preferred way to interview in the 21st century.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at the list of tips that you can use to ace your next Skype interview. When you’re done reading this week’s blog, please be sure to share the link with your friends and neighbors at your favorite community of apartments for rent in Owasso.
Tip #1 — Record yourself before you start
Skype interviews give you the unique opportunity to record yourself practicing, and see exactly what you’ll look like when speaking to the interviewer. WHen you record a video of yourself practicing, make sure you’re making eye contact with the camera. You don’t want to be looking at the screen while you’re talking, because that will make it appear as though you can’t maintain eye contact.
Another thing to pay attention to is your sound levels. It’s hard to know how loud you should be during a Skype interview, which is why it's so important to practice and record yourself ahead of time.
Tip #2 — Pay attention to your background
Here’s one thing you never have to think about during a traditional interview; what’s behind you. In a Skype interview, overall appearance needs to be professional, including your background. You don’t just want a white wall, but you don’t want a cluttered, messy background either. Make sure there aren’t any screens on behind you, and make sure your lighting is coming from in front of you, not behind you.
Tip #3 — Consider using earbuds.
There’s nothing more awkward during a Skype interview than having to ask the interviewer to repeat themselves over and over again. Some people also run into the issue where their microphones pick up the voice coming out of the speaker, so your interviewer hears their own voice echoed back to them.
You can avoid both of these issues by plugging in headphones. We recommend using the small earbud headphones so you don’t look ridiculous with huge headphones on your head. Try them out in a practice video, make sure you’re comfortable with how you look and how well you can hear, and go into your Skype interview with confidence!
