We’re sure that residents of our Owasso apartments have read article after article online about how it’s more financially responsible to cook at home than it is to go out to eat. Anyone who’s ever put this line of thinking into practice has probably seen the effects. If you can go a whole week without eating out for any of your meals, you’ll notice a fat chunk of change in your bank account that isn’t usually there. So, if the effects of dining in are so measurable, why do so many people still choose to go out to eat?
The answer, folks, is very simple. Eating out is almost always more fun that eating at home, and it’s letting someone else else cook for you is certainly easier than making your own meals. Plus, people like to go on dates, and it’s easier to ask someone to meet you out for a meal than it is to invite them over to your apartment for a homemade dinner. There are lots of reasons why people choose to dine out, and none of them involve saving money.
That being said, there are ways to save a few bucks here and there when you dine out. We’re not saying it’ll be cheaper than going to the grocery store and cooking your meals at home, but you can avoid spending a painful amount of money every time you go out to eat. We know it’s hard to believe, but follow the rules laid out below, and you too can enjoy what it feels like to dine out without being afraid to check your bank account the next day.

Become a master of the appetizer menu
This rule has kind of a double meaning, so pay attention. You want to use the appetizer menu to your advantage, but don’t overdo it. What we mean is, if you’re going to order appetizers, make that the only thing you order. There are plenty of appetizers out there that are filling enough to act as your main course, and they’re often half the price of the regular entrees. Now, what you don’t want to do is order an appetizer and an entree. All too often, we see people get suckered into ordering both just because the waiter asked them which appetizer they wanted to get. Don’t let this happen to you!
Let your Inbox be Inundated
We all hate when we wake up in the morning and our inbox is already filled with dozens of useless emails. Those emails often get deleted before they’re even opened, but we’re here to encourage you to at least take a peek at some of those emails before you send them to the trash. Specifically, pay attention the emails from sites like Groupon, Yelp and OpenTable. These emails are usually filled with coupons and special offers from restaurants. In fact, you’re essentially throwing away money by deleting them without opening them. Think of all the times you’ve gone out to eat at somewhere that probably had a Groupon or Yelp offer just waiting in your inbox. Don’t let dollars go to waste, people!
