A lot of people resolve to live healthier once the new year hits, so we’ve decided to write a blog post about some healthy habits that can help with those types of goals. Living healthy is about more than just going to the gym every day, but it is a lot easier to live healthy when you live in an apartment community with an on-site fitness center!

Tip 1. Start tracking your healthy streaks
When making healthy changes in your life, it’s important to track your progress. Seeing the results of your efforts will help you stay motivated and on the right path. That’s why we recommend starting a healthy living journal. Keep track of the number of days in a row that you worked out. Write down the healthy meals you ate, and pay attention to the number of consecutive days that you avoided eating fast food. It feels good to see that you’ve been to the gym five days in a row, or that you cooked a healthy meal for yourself every day for a week.
Tip 2. Avoid the “all or nothing” mentality
It’s easy to get discouraged when you miss a trip to the gym or give in to the urge to get fast food for lunch. Don’t be too hard on yourself though, and don’t think of healthy living as an all or nothing endeavor. If you don’t have time for an hour-long workout at the end of the day, go for a quick jog or do some body weight workouts in your apartment. One cheat meal isn’t the end of the world, but it can be a problem if you let that cheat meal snowball into a full day of unhealthy eating. So long as you’re making one or two healthy choices every day — no matter how small they may seem — you’re on the right track.
Tip 3. Prioritize sleep
Healthy living starts with healthy sleeping habits. The less sleep you get, the more likely it is that you’ll skip the gym the next day or grab an unhealthy breakfast on the way to work because you didn’t feel like waking up early to make a healthy meal. Sleep is more important than you might think, so make it a priority in your life. Going back to our first tip, you can even keep track of how many nights in a row you got a full eight hours of rest and count that as your “healthy choice” for the day!
