The staff at 98 apartments in Owasso has a little bit of advice this week for anyone who’s looking to make a career change or apply for a new job. Transitional periods are some of the most stressful times that people go through, and we thought we’d help ease the transition for anyone who’s experiencing that right now. If you’re not going through a transition, you may still find some of this advice helpful.
The quotes below are about living with the reality that we must work for a living in order to support ourselves and our families. If you’re passionate and extremely fortunate, you might be able to do something every day that you don’t really think of as work. If you’re still toiling away at a 9 to 5 job that doesn’t inspire you, these quotes might be the spark you need to launch yourself out of that office and into a more empowering career.
We didn’t come up with this advice ourselves, of course, but we have sourced it from some pretty successful people. Below, you’ll find quotes from a president, a millionnaire, an award winning actor and a world leader. Here they are, presented by the luxury apartments Owasso residents prefer.
#1. "Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort." - President Franklin D. Roosevelt
If you’re considering a few different job offers, it’s important to compare more than just the salaries. A high salary won’t matter one bit if you’re quitting in six months because you can’t stand the culture or your boss. Speaking of bosses....
#2. “I've always been terrified of working for a boss who I didn't like but who I was in fear of, because I wanted my salary” —Simon Cowell
In some cases, you have to take a job because you need the money. However, if given the choice, you should never take a job with an overly demanding or intimidating boss. Our bosses are some of the few people in our lives who have the power to make our lives miserable or spectacular, depending on their demeanor.
#3. “There is no passion to be found in playing small—in settling for a life that is less than you are capable of living.” — Nelson Mandela
Applying for jobs in a specific field can get stressful when you don’t have early success. It can be tempting to broaden your search to include some positions that you might not be crazy about. Avoid doing this whenever possible, because a job that lacks passion leads to a life that lacks passion.
#4. “Family is not an important thing. It's everything. “ —Michael J. Fox
Remember those demanding bosses we talked about earlier? If your boss is keeping you at work late or making you work on the weekends, it’s time to find a new job. A good boss should understand that you need time with your family and friends, and that your work will undoubtedly suffer if you’re deprived of that time.
#5. “Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family.” — Kofi Annan
The best jobs let people continue their education. If your job doesn’t let you educate yourself, it's up to you to make it happen on your own time. If you never stop educating improving yourself, you’ll be able to get better jobs than your peers who remain stagnant.
