Swimming Holes

When the heat turns up sometimes you have to cool down the natural way. It’s easy to grab your friends and family and take a dip in one of Oklahoma’s many natural swimming holes.  Blue Hole Park just outside Salina is perfect for swimmers of all sizes. There’s a shallow area for toddlers, crawfish to entertain older kids and a concession area to keep everyone’s hunger at bay. The water at Blue Hole Park is known for being clear and cold, just the way we like it.

Venture a little farther south and you’ll find Beavers Bend State Park and the pristine swimming hole outside Broken Bow. In addition to swimming, this area offers mini golf, paddle boat and canoe rentals and the pièce de résistance...the snow cone shack. Bring a couple bucks to take advantage of these extra features.

Famous Iced Tea

What’s your go to summer drink? Sometimes ice water just doesn’t cut it. If the temperature is soaring and the asphalt is melting you should consider picking up an iced tea from McAlister’s Deli, which is known for its “famous” sweet tea. Their iced tea comes either unsweetened or in different flavors. People really like this stuff around here. There’s even a Facebook page for McAlister’s Deli tea lovers (McAlister’s Deli Tea Freaks), which has accumulated more than 500,000 likes. When half a million people are turning to iced tea to save them from the heat, you know it’s gotta be good.  Lucky for you there’s a McAlister’s Deli just 5 minutes south of 98 apartments in Owasso.

Oklahoma Aquarium

Oklahoma is about as landlocked as a state gets, but we do have a top notch sea-life aquarium right here in Tulsa. The Oklahoma Aquarium may help you daydream about refreshing ocean breezes like you’re fishing off the coast of New England or it may just provide a nice cool space with air conditioning. Either way, the aquarium is a perfect place to escape the heat for a few hours with the kids. The aquarium is open year round from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm (or 9:00 pm on Tuesdays). Tickets cost $15.95 for adults and $11.95 for kids.

City Playgrounds

The City of Tulsa does a great job keeping its residents cool. If swimming next to the fish in rivers and lakes isn’t your thing, don’t fret. You can still cool down with the kids at Tulsa’s splash pads and water playgrounds. City of Tulsa splash pad locations can be found by clicking on “aquatics” on the culture & recreation page of cityoftulsa.org. Many of the surrounding communities also have splash pads including one near your apartment in Owasso!
